Plinth area meaning

This is another blog in the series of real estate jargon.

Dictionary meaning of plinth is an architectural base or support for a column or building. Plinth area is also referred as built up covered area.

Plinth area of any building is total area of this base on which building has been created. Sometime people get confused between carpet area and plinth area, but it is two different term,  Plinth area will be always more than carpet area as it includes thickness of external and internal walls.

Plinth area calculation can be done by measuring one end to the other end of the exterior wall.
